Easily recognazible, this reinforced concrete building was the most modern coal extraction tower in Wallonia, Belgium. Built in 1959, this 57-meter-high tower was able to lift loads of up to 47 tons, with an extraction well going down more than 900 meters deep. Since its closure in 1984 and although the destruction of all the other buildings of the site, the tower of the last coal mine in Wallonia still stands in the Walloon landscape. A club of cavers has converted it into a training area.

Est-elle accessible librement ? Je passe en face depuis des années et j’ai toujours rêvé d’y aller faire quelques photos… 🙂
Non, le lieu n’est pas libre d’accès ni abandonné (le haut de la tour est occupé par des antennes et l’intérieur exploité par un club de spéléologues). Mais il est tout à fait possible d’introduire une demande au propriétaire, ou passer par le Club « Les Sus-Pendus » qui s’y entraînent un vendredi sur deux.
