The Montzen Station was built during the German occupation in World War I. The Germans employed Russian prisoners for the construction. Their goal was to facilitate the rail connection between Aix-la-Chapelle and Visé by building a direct line which allowed the transports from Germany to Antwerp to avoid detours. Very useful during World War I, the station building is today abandoned. Two electrified tracks still allow convoys from Antwerp to reach Germany.
