The Sartis site was one of the two coal factories that constituted the Charbonnages d’Hensies-Pommeroeul. Exploitation of coal started in 1918 here. The factory was very modern at the time and produced mainly charcoal for domestic use, increasing the production of coal in the Borinage region. The site closed on March 31, 1976, making it the last colliery in the Borinage. Today, only a few buildings are still visible. These include the changing rooms, offices, workshops and conciergerie.
